2009 JUNIOR TOURNAMENT JOINT COMPETITION

Yet another exceptionally good tournament.

The tournament was run with an initial 3 groups of 6 players, Groups A & B were made up of experienced players with Group C mostly junior and inexperienced players.

Group A was a very close group won by Alex Jones, with Greg Wallace and George Handsacre close behind. Giles Grey was unfortunate to miss out on a top 3 place on points scored despite winning two of his matches.

The Group B winner was George Gilmore who won all his four games. Hugh McMillen won three games and Michael Oates two games to claim their places in Group D.

The Group C winner was Joe Bishop who won all his four matches & Ben Gilmore our youngest player at 8 years old won three to head the group with Neve in third place. It is important to acknowledge that Lucy Gilmore and Jessica Harris though still at Junior school competed well in the upper groups.

Alex & George G continued to play strong badminton in the top group but were surprised by Greg Wallace and George H who improved with each match played. This time with only 4 points separating four of the players.

The final between George Handsacre & Greg Wallace was played to 15 points in front of a large audience who were treated to an excellent match. Both players were able to use their variety of shots to move each other around the court in a fast and eventful game. George managing to overcome his early nerves and ran out the winner 15-10.

Both players received well earned applause at the end of the match.

The photo below shows the players with the winners holding their medals.
